Evaluation of Stigma of Mental Illnesses: A Review

چکیده

Stigma is the society's development of prejudiced attitudes and behaviors against individual due to diagnosis treatment associated with mental illnesses, individual's exposure discrimination within social group. can be observed as internalized. Social stigma limit people's opportunities, options competitive conditions. Internalized internalization beliefs related discriminatory approach environment by individual. internalized stigmatization processes are self-esteem. It has been stated that patient relatives also exposed along individuals who have illness, reduces possibility recovery in illnesses. Considering relevant research findings, it understood there a need struggle individually socially order prevent increase negative consequences illness comorbidities, strengthen functional during process support. Informing patients, patient's family, health workers society, encouraging change new on subject considered methods stigma. In this review, process, stigma, relationship between psychopathology self-esteem status over time, according societies, services were evaluated.
